Gold Coast Renovation

This beautiful Alameda home, built in 1900, had a generic 1970’s kitchen. The space was large but completely under utilized.

Our clients were very collaborative in choosing finishes and accents that fit the age of the home perfectly. We selected colors that complemented the home (the cabinet color was inspired by the original fireplace in the dining room) and the clients existing art. Increasing the height of the pass thru to the dining made a world of difference to both rooms.

The kitchen is suited for lots of entertaining and ease of maintenance. The custom copper hood has a vintage embossed detail that matched George Washington’s fireplace mantle.

Beware of how much you think you can handle! Trying to guide your own project sounds romantic and thrifty but many challenges lay ahead .  Perspective with a professional vantage point are key to having what you want at the very end.  Costs can run out of control, long view decisions can be made too late, and choosing the least expensive contractor will cause you heart ache or cost you more in long run, if not both.  Unless you plan to stay at home full time to run your project, don’t make the mistake.  Remodeling is incredibly expensive so part of your SMART INVESTMENT is to choose a designer who understands and respects your budget, your aesthetic, and how the “new” fits the home you live in.
